FAQ; BARRIER CREAM

What is Antimicrobial Barrier Cream?

EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream is a hand lotion that protects against harmful agents commonly found in the work and home environment and has an active antimicrobial barrier to known pathogens and help hands maintain integrity of the skin. It is a moisturizing lotion that kills germs to eliminate dry cracked skin and keep hands healthy with an antimicrobial active.

What do you mean by ‘Barrier’?

The innovative basis of EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream formulation is its proprietary formula that forms a bond to the outermost layer of the skin, lasting for hours. The lotion's impermeable characteristics to help prevent moisture loss and protect from penetration of harmful chemicals (non- toxic), including latex, and its FDA-approved antimicrobial agent provides protection from a broad spectrum of infectious pathogens.  When topically applied, the formulation adheres to the skin's outer layers, forming a protective bond, resisting wash-off, and delivering targeted levels of therapeutic or cosmetic skincare agents to the skin. This allows enhanced delivery performance resulting in improved efficacy, longer duration of action and reduced irritation. The "invisible" silicone composition in the Barrier Cream wears off as part of the natural exfoliation process of the skins outer layer cells.

What is the benefit of a Barrier Cream that kills germs?

Our Barrier cream is an antimicrobial skin protectant containing 0.1% Benzalkonium Chloride which, at this concentration, has been proven to kill common germs that can cause infections and other complications of the skin. The Aloe rich formula has an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin.  As a result, EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream is an effective and non-obtrusive skin barrier that protects against continued aggravation of abused, infected and environmentally sensitive skin. While protecting skin against previously damaging exposure, it has the secondary effect of allowing the skin to heal naturally from within. EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream contains anti-microbial (destroys or inhibits the growth of micro-organisms) agents to maintain healthy skin.

Will EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream help protect me from germs?

The Barrier Cream inhibits the growth of a variety of bacteria, viruses and fungi, and is an effective defense when combined with established protective ingredients. The Barrier Cream is effective against gram-positive spherical bacteria (Staphylococcus) and gram-negative bacteria which can cause food poisoning, gastrointestinal inflammation, typhoid fever of septicaemia (Salmonella). Not to mention that it destroys many viruses on contact.

Is EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Cream safe for my skin?

No evidence of skin sensitization to the cream has been found, which is important since, ideally, EcoHydra’s antimicrobial Barrier Cream will be used many times throughout the day.

Where else can the product be used?

It is effective and safe for using as a protection against a babies diaper rash. This product can also be used in conjunction with gloves to offer a secondary line of defense against substances that can be harmful or present a reasonable degree of high risk.  While providing superior performance and protection, this product is not recommended to replace gloves or other conventional protection against harsh acids or toxic solvents.

What gives EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream the barrier properties?

The property of dimethicone, the protective barrier and a synergy of ingredients is what causes the product to retain its molecular shape on the skin's surface, while the moisturiser is absorbed and the silicone forms a micro layer on the skin. The protective barrier will respond differently to each individual. How long the product will remain effective is dependent upon a number of factors, including individual metabolic rate and skin exposure related to specific activities such as frequent handwashing.

Can EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream replace gloves?

The Barrier Cream bonds with the top layer of dead and dying skin cells to create a previously unavailable barrier which will protect your skin against penetration from a broader spectrum of harmful substances.  It is not a replacement for accepted protective devices such as gloves.  It is an effective backup to their possible and documented failure.  In fact, it can protect many users of these protective devices against the possible side affects of their use.  And, where protection is not available, or too cumbersome, it can become the first line of defense for areas of exposed skin.

How does the product feel?

Is invisible on the skin, feels good, and is not sticky or greasy.

How often should I use the Barrier Cream?

EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream will naturally dissipate over a period of hours depending upon the individual characteristics of the user.  Consequently, we recommend that in order to receive maximum protection, you apply the Barrier Cream every two (2) hours.  In addition, so that you may receive the extraordinary benefits of EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream Technology, the area of the skin to be protected should be as clean as possible and dry prior to application.

Can EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream be used for general hand hygiene sanitizer protocol for hospital personnel?

Not at the current time.  Additional clinical documentation is needed. An instant Hand Sanitizer must meet the performance standards set by the FDA in the 21CFR 333.470: Effectiveness testing of a healthcare personnel handwash.  This protocol requires that those products:

  1. Be fast acting,
  2. Kill a broad spectrum of microbes,
  3. Work under a heavy soil load, and
  4. Demonstrate a persistence of action.

EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream was designed with the clinical environment in mind, in which frequent handwashing is practiced.  Use of the Barrier Cream as an adjunct ensures and improves the integrity of the skin, which is often compromised with repeated exposure to water and gloves in the healthcare, food service and institutional markets.

Is EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream only to be used in a clinical setting?

No. It is gentle enough for daily use on the sensitive skin of children.  Therefore, it has applications in all businesses, medical clinics, food preparation services and schools.

The Barrier Cream appears to be a very unique product?

EcoHydra’s Antimicrobial Barrier Cream is not a simple technology. It is state of the art in skin germ eradicating protection.  The advanced technology of this Barrier, the "Barrier Shield", can actually change the way you live today and in the days to come.

Does the Barrier Cream have limitations?

The Barrier Cream is not a medicine and makes no claims to any medicinal effect(s).  This product makes no claims nor guarantees protection from every abusive material, nor can every usage or circumstance be foreseen.  It does not claim to kill germs for four hours or more.  It will NOT protect the skin from acid or other corrosive solvents.  In addition, it should not be used as any type of contraceptive or sexual protection.  This Barrier Cream is NOT a medicine, nor is it a substitute for conventional protective measures or devices such as gloves.  In essence, it is the cream that acts as a barrier against general environmental exposure to common repeated activity such as hand washing.  It also delivers an antimicrobial impact.  This cream is manufactured, packaged and dispensed under established FDA guidelines.  It is not regulated as a category by the FDA or EPA or any other governmental agency and utilizes only the highest grade of accepted ingredients available.
