EcoHydra exhibits at 'Healthcare Associated Infection '09 - Towards Zero'
Delegates trying the products at this conference expressed a need for an alcohol-free range of hand hygiene products in the NHS, saying that the alcohol based products damage their skin.
Professor Brian Duerden CBE, Inspector of Microbiology and Infection Control / Department of Health, a keynote speaker at the conference, said; " the NHS should have an alcohol free product range available as an alternative to the current alcohol based products; if only initially for those people unable to use or effected by the continual use of the alcohol based products presently available".

FIS Delegates' Survey
EcoHydra distributed samples of our Instant Hand Sanitiser to delegates at the Federation of Infection Societies Conference held in November 2007. In January 2008, we asked the delegates how they liked the product.
Delegates responding to the survey were positive about the product. The results are as follows:
- 90% like the feel
- 90% found it kind to skin
- 90% liked it as much as, or more than alcohol gels
- 100% found the website and technical data gave confidence in the efficacy of the product.
The winner of the bottle of champagne for participating in the survey was: Dr. P. Collini. CONGRATULATIONS!
BMJ article on dangers of alcohol based products; "Alcohol handrubs hygiene and hazard"
Using alcohol based handrubs in a clinical setting is hazardous, as noted in recent research from Guy's and St Thomas' hospital records. The article reviews the hazards associated with patients ingesting the alcohol products, with serious side effects. Incidence of ingestion has increased by 314% in adults in hospital and care home settings since the implementation of the use of alcohol gel products for hand hygiene purposes. EcoHydra's products do not contain alcohol and are therefore safe to use in a patient setting. “Alcohol free products: that’s the future of hand hygiene.”
Senior Executive from the National Patient Safety Agency in conversation with EcoHydra board member at the Healthcare Associated Infection Conference
As the NHS cleanyourhands Campaign reports, nurses wash their hands many times every day. Each time they wash with an alcohol based product it damages their skin, causing irritation and loss of skin integrity. The degraded skin surface is harder to clean than a healthy one and far more painful, meaning that over time the product becomes less and less effective as the damaged skin harbours more microbes.
EcoHydra’s range has taken alcohol out of the formula entirely, adding a completely new product we call BASE Technology, incorporating;
The specific combination of these components enables and differentiates EcoHydra’s formulation from other products. It is BASE Technology that makes EcoHydra kind to the skin and incredibly effective against germs of all kinds, creating an exciting new hand hygiene solution for the 21st century.
Our range of BASE Technology products have a wide application within consumer, commercial and institutional markets. They present a holistic approach to the hand hygiene market and address the needs of the Hand Hygiene Triangle:

The three corners of the Hand Hygiene Triangle represent the fundamental requirements of any hand hygiene system:
Wash: Running water and a washing agent (e.g. soap) are used together to remove dirt and germs from the hands; EcoHydra Antimicrobial Handwash
Sanitise: An antiseptic handrub is used without running water to kill germs on the hands; EcoHydra Instant Hand Sanitizer
Protect: A lotion is applied to the hands to condition and moisturise them; EcoHydra Antimicrobial Lotion and Ecohydra Antimicrobial Barrier Cream
EcoHydra’s greatest advantage in the repetition of this triangle is in it’s kindness to skin; giving users a positive attitude to using it. US Center for Disease Control (CDC) research suggests the number one reason for the failure of compliance with hand hygiene protocols as “healthcare workers resisting the repeated use of products that irritate and damage the skin”. In the UK the NHS cleanyourhands Campaign has set targets to raise the average compliance for hand sanitisation from 28% to 76%.

Besides many practical advantages, BASE Technology also offers a substantial increase in product quality and efficiency; the Instant Hand Sanitiser kills at least 99.9999% of germs within 15-30 seconds, using a quarter of the amount that alcohol based products take over a one minute period to match the performance.
The following is an overview of the products’ efficacy, illustrated by an averaged log reduction chart for all the EcoHydra products. You can access detailed log reduction results in our technical information section.
